We regretfully announce the passing of Mark Harrison

It’s with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Harrison, one of Comet’s longest serving employees and engine builder. Mark passed away unexpectedly from a suspected heart problem on Sunday September 1^st. He is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Kara, her husband Brad, and his two grandchildren, Graham and Reese, whom he adored.

Mark started at Comet in 1985, working alongside Mark Dismore Sr. learning the craft of building two cycle engines and machine work. Mark eventually became the engine shop foreman and taught many proteges the art of building winning two cycle engines over the decades, as well as teaching how to be a proper machinist.

Mark’s engines have won at all levels of the sport; from the local tracks, vintage races and regional series to the top levels of the sport, winning WKA National races, enduro events, USPKS and SKUSA races including the Las Vegas SuperNats. There’s hardly a series or track in the country where one of Mark’s engines haven’t crossed the finish line first.

Mark was an accomplished kart racer in his own right, winning multiple championships and races in WKA Road Racing, including winning at the Daytona International Speedway, as well as many sprint and dirt track wins in his karting career.

Mark was meticulous in his engine building and treated every single engine as if it was his favorite. He was also a wizard with the mill and lathe and could make one off machined parts and tools that were second to none. Mark was known throughout the sport for being eager to help others and offer advice to new and seasoned karters alike. Mark will be sorely missed by everyone at Comet and by all that knew him in the karting industry.
